OK, I'm not a manufacturer, but as an end-user I think I should tell you something :
T2 BPO's are actually a way to print money.
We all know the reasons why Cap Recharger II's cost millions, instead of their base price of 100,000 isk.
BPO lottery is exactly that : a lottery. The winner gains several billion isk, possibly lots more.
This has to stop.
Have a look at the items data base : a tech II cruiser (HAC) has a base cost around 18 million isk. That is the base cost of all components and minerals that are necessary to build it. In actuality minerals are cheaper than the numbers used to calculate this base price.
Has anyone ever seen a tech II cruiser sell for 18 millions ? No. They sell of 70 million (i.e. Cerberus)
The difference, over 50 million, is pure profit for the builder. It's what the builder gains from having been lucky enough to get a BPO.
Now I don't care how much "effort" you put into getting a BPO, all I know is that there are many activities in Eve that are a LOT riskier and none pays nearly as well.
CCP nerfed level 4 missions because at first they were deemed too easy and therefore too profitable. Well during that short time I didn't manage to make even half a billion isk of profit out of them.
So give me one good reason why one lucky player should be awarded a license to print isk, a.k.a. a rare tech II BPO.
Now... I'm not just here to rant, although this sure is rant-worthy. Here's what I propose :
- Finally allow reverse engineering. We know there is provision for this feature. There has been, for a long time already, but it's still not there.
R.E. would allow people to create a tech II BPO from a tech II item. It may cost a lot of isk, but by making this possible you ensure, in the long term, that tech II items will get close to their base price, just as it is the case with tech I items.
- Introduce tech II items in the loot tables.
- Introduce named tech II items.
The above two suggestions will help lower the insane demands of tech II builders. Besides, tech II has been here for so long that by now you should expect the NPC's to have started to use some, right ?
With R.E. the winner of a BPO would have a short, but real, timeframe in which to make lots of isk off his BPO, and at the same time we wouldn't see insane stuff like CR II still costing millions over a year after their introduction.
With tech II loot, players who actually risk getting their ships blown up will stand a chance of rebuilding their ship at a reasonnable cost, instead of dropping a 100 million hard-earned isk into the lap of manufacturers everytime their Raven gets shot.
